CDL Test: Truck Reaction Distance

Q.: What are the components of your truck’s “reaction distance”? Your “Total Stopping Distance” = Perception Distance + Braking Distance + ?

A.: Reaction Distance.

Explanation: Perception Distance: this is the distance traveled from time of hazard sighting until brain reacts. Reaction distance: this is the distance traveled from time of message sent to your foot to move the truck brake pedal until the pedal is actually depressed. Finally, truck braking distance: this is the time it takes to stop your truck once the truck brakes are applied. These three components added together are the “total stopping distance”.
